In the past years, viable cluster- and network structures have formed in the most important economic branches and technology sectors in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In part, these have been initiated by network promotion of the federal state and oftentimes not only businesses are involved as partners but also universities and other research institutions.

Business- and technology-oriented cluster and network structures can most commonly be found in the areas automobile manufacturing/aerospace/logistics; agriculture and food industry; renewable energy; information technology and higher-order business services; life sciences/ health economy; maritime industry as well as industrial manufacturing and materials. They represent issue- and sector-orientation of existing business structures in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Many “bridge networks” also operate at the interface of different sectors so as to contribute to a deepened interdisciplinary cooperation and cross-sector knowledge and competencies. A special goal of some networks is also the inclusion of partners along particular value chains.
