With news and events from the clusters of the “go-cluster” programme of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), this newsletter showcases how the national cluster management organisations contribute to the further development of their stakeholders.

European Training Foundation: ETF Green Skills Award for a more sustainable world

The European Training Foundation (ETF) has launched the fourth edition of its Green Skills Award. This important initiative aims to strengthen global sustainability and progress by promoting environmentally conscious education, training and skills development. An international jury will select 10 finalists. Applications are open until 29 February 2024. Link to the application

EU Green Week Partner Events: Towards a water resilient Europe

The Green Week Conference, taking place on 29 and 30 May 2024, will be accompanied by partner events, organised in Europe and beyond, under the common theme of water resilience. Activities can take place at local, regional, national or European level. Submission deadline is 17 March 2024.

ECCP: New deadlines for expressions of interest – Clusters meet Regions

The European Cluster Collaboration Platform (ECCP) is calling for further expressions of interest from national or regional authorities with cluster organisations. These can jointly organise a workshop as part of the Clusters meet Regions event series. The next deadline for submissions is 31 May 2024.

German Ecodesign Award: Highest state award for ecological design in Germany

The German Ecodesign Award honours designers, companies and students from Germany and Europe whose work make an important contribution to the sustainable transformation of our economy and society. A central goal of Ecodesign is to design products, services and systems in such a way that their negative impact on the environment is minimised in all phases of life.

Silicon Saxony: New EU initiative INFRACHIP to accelerate the development of new semiconductor chips

The INFRACHIP project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme. This ambitious project, with Silicon Saxony as a partner, aims to facilitate access to cutting-edge technologies in the semiconductor sector in order to accelerate research and innovation and respond to the challenges in line with the objectives of the European Chips Act.

Strategic Partnership for Sensor Technologies: EU consortium develops AI qualification programmes

The European consortium AI4VET4AI comprises 26 partners from eleven countries with a common goal: to equip more workers with skills in the use of artificial intelligence. The project focuses on the digital transformation of the labour market in the EU. As a project partner, the cluster Strategic Partnership for Sensor Technology is contributing its diverse experience in the transfer of technology expertise and methodological skills as well as in the design of practical training programmes.

How excellent cluster work paved the way for the "Materials Forum of the Future"

Lüdenscheid Centre of Competence for Surface Technology and Plastics and its cooperation partners Remondis, Technologiezentrum Schwerte, Wuppertal Institute and Zenit recently received a grant of EUR 6.3 million for the "Materials Forum of the Future". The foundation stone for the project was laid by Lüdenscheid Centre of Competence for Surface Technology and Plastics, a member of the "go-cluster" programme of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, thanks to its excellent networking activities.

Full cluster power towards 5G for industry

In the 5G4Industry project, InnoZent OWL e. V., a member of the "go-cluster" programme of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, succeeded in developing concrete applications and use cases to demonstrate the potential of 5G in industrial production. InnoZent OWL provided a platform for knowledge exchange and transfer, drove implementation forward and consolidated it in the region. This holistic approach led to strong networking that will continue beyond the project – and thus strengthened the competitiveness of the entire region.

BioRN: EU study tour on technology transfer – Barbados and Guyana pay a visit

Visit to BioRN Life Science Cluster

A delegation of government and university representatives from Barbados and Guyana visited the BioRN Life Science Cluster in Heidelberg on 12 February 2024 to learn about technology transfer strategies and concepts. The aim of the delegation trip was to gain a clear understanding of the work and functioning of the European technology transfer offices with regard to pharma-related topics.

ECPE: CIPS – International Conference on Integrated Power Electronics Systems

In conjunction with its annual event, the ECPE European Center for Power Electronics, together with the VDE ETG, is organising the International Conference on Integrated Power Electronics Systems (CIPS) in Duesseldorf from 12 to 14 March 2024. In addition to basic technologies for integrated power electronic systems, new applications will be presented in interdisciplinary contributions.

Energy Saxony: Online-Workshop „GreenEnergy:Community“

The Enterprise Europe Network Saxony, in cooperation with Energy Saxony, offers international networking on the European level in the “green energy” sector on 26 March 2024. During this event, innovative Saxon technology providers can present themselves to an international audience with short pitches and discuss possible solutions.

European Commission: Conference “Investing in EU Industry” at Hannover Messe

EU industry is key to Europe’s prosperity and global competitiveness. At the conference on 22 April 2024, there will be a discussion between high-level decision makers from the European Commission, Member States, the European Investment Bank and European industry on what the EU is already doing and what it could do to invest (more) in European industry.

Strategic Partnership for Sensor Technologies: Women in Data Science Regensburg

Data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence – these topics will once again take center stage in Regensburg on 14 May 2024. “Women in Data Science” is a platform for open exchange among all Data Science enthusiasts. Internationally recognized female researchers, industry experts, and emerging young female researchers present their work on a conference day.
