Dear Readers,

This is the second edition of the “go-cluster”-Newsletter in English. It informs you about cluster activities at federal and state level, but also about new international developments and current topics.

With news and events from the clusters of the “go-cluster” programme of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), this newsletter showcases how the national cluster management organisations contribute to the further development of their stakeholders.

European Training Foundation: UA Re-Emerge(ncy) – Call for Learning and Training Resources for the Reconstruction of Ukraine

The European Training Foundation (ETF) is urgently requesting professional short modules and other e-learning resources from the EU, EU neighbouring countries, and globally in the areas of energy efficiency, construction and reconstruction, and green energy. This is to enable Ukrainian learners to acquire skills and knowledge required in their respective local labour markets. Please submit the materials as soon as possible. European Commission: EU-Ukraine Business Matchmaking Platform supports exports

Since the attack of Russian troops on Ukraine in violation of international law and the blockade of Ukrainian seaports, the country can no longer export its products through the usual channels. This situation threatens, among other things, global food security. The European Commission's EU-Ukraine Business Matchmaking Platform is helping to support Ukrainian exports. Clusters and companies that can help are urged to register on the Matchmaking Platform. The Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) operates the platform.

ECCP: Short-term Mobility Programme in Japan for Employees of EU Industry Clusters

European Cluster Collaboration Platform

The mobility programme aims to promote international cooperation between industrial clusters in the European Union (EU) and their counterparts in Japan. The EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation is organizing the programme together with the European Cluster Collaboration Platform (ECCP). Individuals from project leadership, management and other staff responsible for internationalization of clusters working in EU industrial clusters are eligible to apply. The deadline is August 31, 2022.

Bavarian Power Electronics Cluster: European Sustainable Energy Cluster partnership for Africa (ESECA)

ESECA is a partnership formed by five European clusters from Spain, France, Italy and Germany (Bavarian Power Electronics Cluster – ECPE - Cluster Leistungselektronik). It aims at intensifying business network collaboration among European SMEs from the renewable energy and smart grids sector to develop a joint internationalisation strategy plan with common goals towards Sub-Saharan African markets. On 15 and 16 September 2022, an ESECA workshop is taking place in Lille, France.

Medical Valley: Establishing a China landing hub with Convergence Partners and Siemens Healthineers

On 3 August 2022, an official signing ceremony at the Siemens Healthineers Innovation Center at Zhangjiang Park in Shanghai and at the Medical Valley Center in Erlangen launched a comprehensive EU-China cross-border acceleration programme for European healthcare innovators. Medical Valley Solutions, Convergence Partners and Siemens Healthineers will collaborate with Zhangjiang Group in Shanghai. Medical Valley Solutions is the commercial platform of Medical Valley EMN e. V., a German cluster of excellence in the field of medical technology.

International Certification Office Healing Forest creates “green pharmacies” worldwide

The “International Certification Office Healing Forest” is a new lighthouse project from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (MV). Its aim is to internationally promote the use of the forest – the "green pharmacy" – for health purposes. In this way, MV is supporting the development of the federal state into Germany's leading health region. The project is coordinated by BioCon Valley® GmbH, the health industry network for MV and a member of the “go-cluster” programme of the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK).

The KI-Lab Bodensee strengthens regional AI competence and competitiveness

The “KI-Lab Bodensee”, a project of “go-cluster” member cyberLAGO e.V., has recently received further funding. The Lab supports companies in the Lake Constance region in developing and expanding their competences in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

BioM and Munich Biotech Cluster celebrated 25th anniversary

On 27 July 2022, BioM and the Munich Biotech Cluster celebrated their 25th anniversary. Together, they can claim a great success story. With the support of the biotech cluster management organization, the life science region has become one of the most successful biotech hotspots in Europe. At the celebration event, around 250 invited guests from industry, science and politics came and looked back on the joint achievements as well as on a promising future.

European Commission: European Sustainable Energy Week

The European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) is the biggest annual event dedicated to renewables and efficient energy use in Europe. It comprises a series of activities aimed at building a secure energy future for Europe. This year, EUSEW takes a hybrid format, on the theme of “Going green and digital for Europe's energy transition”, with speakers and participants in Brussels – and online. The EUSEW Policy Conference will take place from 26 to 29 September 2022, preceded by a dedicated Extended Programme from 19 to 23 September.

European Commission: EU Bioeconomy Conference 2022

The high-level conference “The Bioeconomy - Enabling the European Green Deal in Challenging Times” will take place on 6 and 7 October 2022 in Brussels. In addition, all sessions will be livestreamed so that anyone interested can participate from anywhere. The European Commission is organising the conference. The deadline for registration is 1 October 2022.

BioRN: Annual Conference “Molecular Mechanisms of Ageing and Longevity”

The annual conference 2022 of the BioRN cluster will take place on 7 October in Heidelberg's Zollhofgarten. In terms of content, everything revolves around the question “Why do we age?”. Various keynote lectures and group sessions will present current trends in research and technology that can lead to an extension of the healthy lifespan by deciphering the molecular mechanisms of ageing. Since 2009, BioRN's annual conference has been a platform for lively discussions and valuable networking opportunities with international experts from diverse fields of life sciences.

BioLAGO: Diagnostics-4-Future Conference 2022

On 12 and 13 October 2022, the BioLAGO health network will once again bring together medical experts with users and suppliers from industry for the two-day Diagnostics-4-Future Conference in Constance on Lake Constance. The focus of the international diagnostics platform will be on solutions for rural areas (point-of-care), diagnostics of infectious diseases as well as digitalisation and artificial intelligence. The registration deadline is 7 October 2022.

biosaxony: Regional host of BIO-Europe 2022

From 24 to 26 October 2022, the international industry meeting BIO-Europe will take place in Leipzig, an emerging biotechnology region in Europe. The biosaxony cluster is the regional host. The conference will be complemented by a digital part in the following week (2 to 4 November 2022), for which a second round of virtual partnering meetings can be arranged and a programme can be accessed on demand.

Allianz Faserbasierte Werkstoffe Baden-Württemberg: THE Congress –
NATURALfiberEXTRACTION

The first NATURALfiberEXTRACTION congress on October 26, 2022 will cover the entire chain of natural fiber pulping and natural fiber preparation from the field to the consumer. Participants will gain an overview of the technologies and machines currently used on the market. The Allianz Faserbasierte Werkstoffe Baden-Württemberg e. V. (AFBW) and the German Institutes for Textile and Fiber Research Denkendorf are jointly organizing the congress.
