Cluster Mechatronik & Automation is the ideal point of contact for small and medium-sized companies and other industrial users in the field of mechatronics.

The Cluster is the successor to the joint research project “Bavarian Network of Expertise in Mechatronics” (2000-2005), in which six of the leading Bavarian research institutions were involved. The Augsburg University of Applied Sciences joined with the founding of the association and thus increased the capacity for possible collaborations. An administrative office has been set up in Augsburg as central reference point.

Cluster Mechatronik & Automation offers valuable support in design, development and production in almost all fields of mechatronics to its members and any other interested parties. More than 50 projects have been realised by members of the cluster in order to lay the foundations for the Bavarian industry’s leading role through the mechatronic approach. In these projects, extensive knowledge could be gathered about complete development and production processes for mechatronic products, and new such products were developed.

The establishment of the cluster allows coordination and bundling of core competencies in a comprehensive network. Synergies are created that would be otherwise impossible. The different locations of the partners involved (metropolitan areas of Munich, Nuremberg/Erlangen, Augsburg/Swabia and East Bavaria) ensure that producing companies all over Bavaria are given the possibility to profit from the cluster’s output.

In designated cooperations with transnational nodes, centers and networks, Cluster Mechatronik & Automation highlights its members’ profiles on international levels, participates actively in transnational activities, and provides a platform for knowledge and technology transfer across borders.
