Hydrogen
Next generation innovation network Hydrogen
The next generation innovation network Hydrogen connects players from all areas of the hydrogen value chain, from production to storage and distribution to use, in joint research and development activities.
Hydrogen technologies of and for tomorrow
Hydrogen as an energy carrier offers the possibility to establish a global, carbon-neutral energy economy. Hydrogen technologies are being discussed within the sectors of tomorrow's mobility, heat-intensive industry or even the chemical industry. For this, the sustainable production of hydrogen as well as efficient storage and distribution must be ensured at the same time.
The networking approach
Hydrogen bundles the already existing expertise in the field of hydrogen technology in the area of Aachen and Jülich by connecting the players from industry, science and society. This creates a broad foundation of excellent research results from the fields of electrolysis, fuel cells, hydrogen combustion, fibre composites and additive manufacturing.
By considering the entire value chain or the entire life cycle of hydrogen as an energy carrier, it should be possible to continue developing hydrogen technologies, taking into account the interfaces to the upstream and downstream steps in the hydrogen life cycle.
Clusters4Future - Hydrogen selected as a next generation innovation network
The idea for Hydrogen was born in 2019 in response to the first call of the BMBF-Clusters4Future competition. In a multi-stage selection process, Hydrogen initially made it into the already funded conception phase in 2020 and was finally selected as one of seven next generation innovation networks in the beginning of 2021. Since October 2021, Hydrogen has been receiving funding for an initial three-year implementation phase.
