Next generation innovation network QSens

QSens focuses on researching and developing quantum sensors, a novel technology in the field of measurement and sensor technology. Within the Württemberg region, QSens aims to rapidly transfer quantum sensors into a market application.

The development of quantum sensors

Almost 100 years after its formulation, quantum physics is about to make the leap into everyday society. Quantum technologies promise to revolutionize numerous fields of application - from medical and communications technology to artificial intelligence and autonomous technical systems.

Promising prototypes of quantum sensor technology have been tested within a few successful feasibility studies - and this is precisely where QSens comes in: Based on the results of fundamental research, QSens is working in this field with partners from engineering sciences as well as with stakeholders from the leading industry.

Research into quantum technology at the IQST center

In order to transfer research results into the industry, QSens works together with industrial companies. For several years, teams from the Universities of Stuttgart and Ulm have been researching the fundamental understanding and physical properties of quantum systems. The IQST center and the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart serve as common basis for researching and testing quantum sensors.

Clusters4Future – QSens as a next generation innovation network

The idea for QSens was born in 2019 in response to the first call of the BMBF-Clusters4Future competition. In a multi-stage selection process, QSens initially made it into the already funded conception phase in 2020 and was finally selected as one of seven next generation innovation networks in the beginning of 2021. Since November 2021, QSens has been receiving funding for an initial three-year implementation phase.
