Saarland

The services offered by the regional clusters and networks in the Saarland enhance the exchange of knowledge, know-how and knowledge transfer in key areas in regional economic policy contexts and contribute to strengthening the economic performance of the region. They make the existing competencies in the Saarland visible beyond the region, support the initiation of business, also across borders, and identify topics for technology projects through active screening of technology platforms and funding programs at the federal and EU level. Currently, the NanoBio cluster (clustermanagement by cc-NanoBioNet) and the clusters IT, automotive, healthcare and production technology exist.

Within the framework of the innovation strategy, there is also a targeted focus of priorities in the clusters in addition to the focusing of funding. This is done not only through the key areas, but also through links between the various topics in the sense of cross-innovations. Due to the broad spectrum of ICT, these primarily include mechatronics, automation technology, automotive technology, bioinformatics, personalised medicine and the energy industry. For automotive/manufacturing, it is digitisation, Industry 4.0, human-robot collaboration, assistance systems and testing technology. For life sciences/ materials it is medical and bioinformatics, materials, materials technology, nanotechnology, neuroscience and active ingredient research.

The strategy also includes strategic approaches and recommendations for action, e.g. for the further development and use of innovation policy funding instruments, for the establishment of transfer areas at universities and for strengthening cooperation between industry and science.
