Saarland

The services offered by the regional clusters and networks in the Saarland enhance the exchange of knowledge, know-how and knowledge transfer in key areas in regional economic policy contexts and contribute to strengthening the economic performance of the region. They make the existing competencies in the Saarland visible beyond the region, support the initiation of business, also across borders, and identify topics for technology projects through active screening of technology platforms and funding programs at the federal and EU level. Current organisations include the NanoBio cluster (cluster management by cc-NanoBioNet) and the clusters for motovation and IT based at saaris - saarland.innovation&standort e. V. New additions are the Health.AI network for mobilising the potential of AI for innovation processes in the healthcare sector and CYBR360 for the area of digital security.

In addition to focussing funding, the innovation strategy also involves targeted prioritisation in the clusters. This is achieved not only through the key areas of Digitalisation & Artificial Intelligence, Smart Production & New Mobility and Life Science & Material Science, but also through links between the various topics in the sense of cross-innovations. Between the key areas, these include cloud & AI / open source in production, smart regenerative energy systems, highly automated driving, Industry 5.0, smart metals, biobanking, biointelligent materials, biosensors, neurotechnology, new surfaces, reversible materials, energy storage media, green production processes and green steel.

The strategy also includes the definition of central fields of action that are equally focussed on all key areas. These include R&D expertise and investment, talent pool, knowledge transfer and innovation diffusion as well as sustainable and digital transformation.
