October 2023: Strong Hamburg cluster landscape opens up new horizons for Northern Germany

Several Hamburg members of the “go-cluster” programme of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) presented themselves at the Citizens’ Festival in Hamburg on German Unity Day. Under the motto “Opening Horizons”, the “Cross-Cluster Space Hamburg” (CCS) organised the “Magic Future” exhibition, which impressively convinced visitors of the region’s innovation and future potential.

The city of Hamburg hosted the celebrations for German Unity Day on October 2 and 3. On this occasion, tens of thousands of visitors between the Alster and the Elbe were able to experience Hamburg’s strong cluster landscape in addition to presentations by the constitutional bodies, the 16 federal states and the handover of the baton of the Bundesrat presidency. For example, Hamburg’s industry networks – from the life science sector to the food industry to the digital industry – showed, as part of the "Magic Future" exhibition of Hamburg’s Ministry of Economics and Innovation (BWI) at Gänsemarkt, how they want to shape the world of tomorrow.

In a cross-cluster presentation, the exhibition illustrated the future and innovation potential of Hamburg's cluster landscape by focusing on making local innovation projects visible. Visitors were able to marvel at the "Cruise Ship of the Future" (exhibit by Meyer Werft) and take a trip through the solar system or into the cells of the human body with the VR experience by SpiceVR (in cooperation with DESY). In addition, those interested had the opportunity to get to know the individual clusters as well as networking initiatives and to find out about career opportunities.

Anna Vogel | Project Manager | Cross-Cluster Space Hamburg

"With the Cross-Cluster Space, we want to create a space in and for Hamburg that enables cluster initiatives to network and jointly initiate projects for the region. Because only if we succeed in getting all the important players around the same table, even across sectors, can we succeed in meeting future-proof technological and social challenges."

Cross-Cluster Space Hamburg

Since 2016, the Co-Learning Space for Hamburg Clusters has been developing and designing the space that enables Hamburg's cluster and network initiatives to engage in a productive exchange. This creates synergy effects at the cluster management level as well as new learning and development potential. In addition, industry experts from the aviation industry, maritime industry, creative industry, media and IT as well as renewable energies are brought into a professional future dialog. The aim is to inspire cross-industry action in order to meet future-oriented technological and social challenges and to develop joint interdisciplinary solutions. From April 2023 to March 2026, the project will continue under the name Cross-Cluster Space Hamburg.
