Networking expertise for innovative solutions and thus strengthening the competitiveness of medium-sized food companies - this is the best way to summarize the mission of the Food Processing Initiative e.V. (FPI). FPI promotes communication between all players in the food sector, provides information, facilitates contacts across food chains and initiates and supports national and international cooperation and innovation projects. The cluster has particular expertise in the areas of product and process innovation, digitalization in food processing, circular economy, food quality and safety, resource efficiency, technology transfer, human resource management, market development, communication and dissemination of research results.

The main objectives of the cluster organization

  • The implementation of innovations and new solutions in the food industry
  • The creation of strategic alliances and cooperation projects and
  • The development of regional, national and international networks

Core tasks

  • Identifying fields of innovation together with the food industry and research
  • Establishment and moderation of expert networks
  • Facilitation of technology transfer (B2B and B2S)
  • Moderation of best-practice cooperations

As a cluster organization, FPI has over 25 years of experience in the management of innovation projects in the food sector at regional, national and European level with a particular focus on the involvement of SMEs. FPI is also experienced in organizing delegation trips, study visits and matching events. The cluster currently has 117 members. FPI has a certified cluster management according to the standards of the European Cluster Excellence Initiative (ECEI) and has the Silver Label certificate and is a member of the partnership Smart Sensors 4 Agri-food.
